Screw Cancer

What is Screw Cancer?

On November 3, 2004, my son Sean was diagnosed with T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. As you can expect, it took us all by surprise. When I say all, I don’t mean just our immediate family, I mean our friends, co-workers, schoolmates, acquaintances, our community and beyond. Within minutes, and I mean literally minutes, word spread from coast to coast, from Florida to Alaska. Everyone was in shock and disbelief. I think that most everyone that we have come in contact with has shed a tear on Sean’s behalf, everyone except Sean.

When told of the news, Sean said “Screw it, I’ll just beat it”. From that moment that has been our family moniker, “Screw Leukemia”.

In November of 2005, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, our family moniker expanded to “Screw Cancer”.

Today, my mother has completed her treatment, and is cancer free. Sean, however,  relapsed and lost the battle against this horrific disease on December 19, 2006.

We have come to realize that Surviving Cancer Requires Eternal Will, because the battle never ends. Be it the patients, the families, or the friends, cancer has a life altering effect.

So for Sean, my mother, for all patients battling this disease, for the survivors, for the families, for the caregivers, and for those that have lost the battle, we say……

We say.. SCREW CANCER!
